Privacy Policy

We know recordings and transcripts are often deeply personal. This policy explains, as plainly as we can, how RecAi handles your data.

Recording and transcription: processed on-device by default

Recording requires your permission to access the microphone. Transcription is performed by whichever engine you choose in the app:

• Apple's native speech recognition (the Speech framework)
• A local Whisper model (runs on-device, no network required)
• A local SenseVoice model (runs on-device, no network required)

All of these engines run recognition on your device by default. Your recordings and transcript text are not uploaded to our servers.

Translation: also processed on-device

Multilingual translation uses the system's Apple Translation framework. Translation happens locally on your device and does not pass through our servers.

AI summary & to-dos: optional, processed by the third-party LLM service you connect

AI summaries and to-do extraction are optional and off by default. If you choose to use them, you provide your own API key for a third-party LLM service in Settings — options include OpenAI, DeepSeek, Zhipu GLM, Alibaba Qwen, or a custom compatible endpoint.

• Once enabled and a summary request is made, the relevant transcript text is sent to the provider you selected, which processes it and returns a result. That processing is governed by that provider's own privacy policy, not ours.
• The API key you enter is stored locally on your device. It never passes through our servers, and we never have access to it.
• If the app surfaces AI-extracted to-dos, you can choose to add them to the system Reminders app, which requires a separate Reminders permission.

Data storage

Recordings and transcripts are stored locally in your device's app data directory, shared by the main app and extensions such as widgets and Live Activity. We do not operate our own cloud storage for this data, and it is not automatically synced across your devices. If you import audio or video from the Files app or your iCloud Drive, the cloud storage and syncing of those source files is handled entirely by iOS/macOS and your own iCloud account — not by us.

In-app purchases and subscriptions

Subscriptions and purchases in the app are processed by Apple and RevenueCat. We never see or store your payment card details; RevenueCat processes the purchase receipt information necessary to validate subscription status — see the RevenueCat Privacy Policy for details.

What we don't do

• We don't integrate third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs in the app.
• We don't proactively upload your recordings or transcripts to our servers without an action you take.
• We don't sell your data to third parties.

Permissions

• Microphone: to record audio.
• Speech recognition: to transcribe recordings into text.
• Photo library (add-only): to save exported videos.
• Reminders: to add AI-extracted to-dos into the system Reminders app (optional).

Children's privacy

RecAi is not designed for children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
